Three Volumes of Books on Tigray War Published in Advance of Commemoration

The University of Tilburg in the Netherlands has released three volumes of books on the Tigray war ahead of the fourth year commemoration on November 3-4, marking both the start and ceasefire of the war. The books, with 40 authored chapters in total, are the result of collaborative research between universities inside and outside Ethiopia. the volumes explore the war’s multifaceted impact on Tigray and the region. Thee books are edited by Professor Mirjam van Reisen, Professor Munyaradzi Mawere and Assistant Professor Araya Abrha Medhanyie. The books,  published by Langaa RPCIG, can be found at africanbookscollective and downloaded freely (see below).

Volume 1: “Tigray. The Hysteresis of War”

Volume 1: “Tigray. The Hysteresis of War” presents findings on the timeline of the war, its preparations, the massacres, and the shocking use of sexual violence and hate speech. It concludes that there may have been acts of genocide in Tigray, calling for international investigation. Download link

Volume 2: “Tigray. The Panarchy of War”

This volume highlights the attempts to destroy Tigray’s religious and cultural heritage and identity, along with new insights into Eritrea’s hidden role in the war. The book argues that the conflict has reshaped the entire Horn of Africa. Download link

Volume 3: “Tigray. War in a Digital Black Hole”

Tigray

This volume examines the impact of the siege and communication blackout, which left the region isolated from the world. It looks at how this affected healthcare and the resilience of the people, who developed innovative solutions in the face of adversity. Download link
